A Lasting Tribute to Two Physicians Who Brought Life into the World

When St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma sought a meaningful way to honor two beloved physicians, Color Works was entrusted with transforming their legacy into a timeless work of art. The result was Honoring Life—a bronze sculpture created to celebrate not only the lives and service of two dedicated OBGYNs, but also the generations of mothers and children they cared for throughout their careers.

Market Context

Serving the close-knit Shawnee community, St. Anthony Hospital’s leadership wanted to create a permanent and heartfelt installation within its newest hospital wing. In a region where personal connection defines care, the hospital’s investment in commemorative art symbolized its enduring commitment to compassion and continuity in women’s health.

Client Goals & Challenges

The hospital commissioned this project to ensure the physicians’ impact would be remembered for years to come. The goals were twofold: to create a single unified piece that honored both women equally and to ensure the work would be safely and beautifully displayed in a public setting. Budget stewardship and site integration within the new labor and delivery corridor were key considerations throughout.

Design Strategy

Color Works provided full project management and art procurement services, guiding the project from conception to installation. After careful artist selection, the team partnered with bronze sculptor Denise Ford of The Bronze Palette to bring the vision to life. The resulting piece, Honoring Life, embodies warmth, grace, and the deep relational care that defined these physicians’ practice. Installed just outside the labor and delivery unit on the hospital’s second floor, the sculpture greets families and staff daily, serving as both memorial and inspiration.

Color Works collaborated closely with hospital administrators, facilities staff, and the artist to design a secure and elegant display method that balanced public accessibility with preservation needs. Every decision—from scale and patina to placement and lighting—was made to evoke reflection, respect, and hope.
